It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their appearance will take the form of a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several notable actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the filming timeline:

1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
3. The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 release.
